About
Michael Giesecke (Geese•Key)
I began learning design as a journalism student in high school, doing publication layout. In college I took a Macromedia Freehand class, learned the pen tool and was hooked on graphics.
I love the storytelling aspect of digital media – sharing something unique and unknown through writing, pictures, video and of course graphic arts. I tend towards simplicity in most of my work. I like to allow colors, shapes and sharp contrast to elicit responses. I'm a big fan of Ryan McGinness, Olly Moss and former collaborator Kevin Johnson.
I have been fortunate to work with some very creative people and teams but have also had many instances where I’ve had to be the entire marketing department. I’ve appreciated these as they’ve helped me to be a bit of Swiss Army man, gaining experience in concept, strategy, writing copy, creating graphics, photography, working with contractors and vendors, etc. I’ve also recently added teaching to the resume, instructing design basics to students in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma.
